Choice Literacy is dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality resources for K-12 teachers and literacy leaders. Founded in 2006, the website has grown to include over 1200 professionally produced and edited video and print features from top educators in the field, as well as promising new voices.
Our workshops and online courses are designed to inspire, challenge and renew you with ideas from acclaimed teacher authors like Jennifer Allen, Franki Sibberson, "The Sisters" (Gail Boushey and Joan Moser), and Aimee Buckner, as well as emerging talents like Clare Landrigan, Tammy Mulligan, and Katie Doherty.
Our one-day workshops take place in beautiful locales throughout the country. Participants have many opportunities to chat with the presenters and their colleagues. Over the past four years, we've had educators attend from every state in the U.S., Canada, and over 30 foreign countries.
You can view our video postcard from our fall workshops in Maine to hear from participants about the value of Choice Literacy Workshops:
We believe literacy change that endures comes from within schools. We honor and support local literacy leaders by supplying them with the practical resources they need to mentor colleagues, design demonstration classrooms, lead study groups, and assess literacy learning. Treat yourself to a Choice Literacy Workshop today, and discover for yourself what the buzz is all about. Here's a sample of what participants have to say about Choice Literacy Workshops:
Inspiring -- the timing has me recharged for the new school year. It puts everything in perspective about assessment driving instruction.
Monica Simonson, Teacher from Palmer, Nebraska
Well organized, excellent presenters, and ready to implement ideas. I felt more like I was having casual conversations with colleagues than at a workshop. It was highly engaging and the give aways were such a great touch.
Stephanie Bartell, Teacher from Chicago, Illinois
Just what I needed to nudge my own professional development in my work as a literacy coach. It really jumpstarted my thinking about the needs of our school. We continue to struggle with balancing curriculum and student needs but most of all, time. Both CAFE and the Daily 5 together have the potential to move teachers towards a management and instructional system to address all of these. I can't wait to share with my colleagues.
Rose Patterson, Literacy Coach from Waterville, Maine
This workshop is a "must"! It is beneficial for the novice and the veteran teacher. We were treated like royalty!
Belinda K. Sampson, Teacher from Seaside, Oregon
Worth every penny! Franki gave me so many new ideas for working with this age group. The strategies she shared have caused me to do some deep thinking about my practice and how I can improve.
Amy Rocha, from Portland, Oregon
It was all very helpful. An approach to literacy delivery that fosters meaningful conversations and thinking that embraces deeper level learning and gives ownership to the students. I particularly like the binder. Looking at the print resources connects me back to Franki's presentation. Thank you for a wonderful workshop.
Willie Langdon, from Upper Kingsclear, New Brunswick
This workshop is tailored to meet the needs of both teachers and instructional coaches. It is organized well and balanced with lecture, video, questions and time to talk. A very relaxed but highly effective use of time. I only have positive things to say about this conference. I'm so happy I was able to be a part of it.
Lisa Meyers, from Portland, Oregon
This workshop validates how teaching is truly a profession that requires thoughtful decisions made by people who take the time to grow themselves and bring that knowledge to their decision about next steps for each student. The tone and quality of the workshop is truly something every teacher should experience.
