The Common Core has brought nonfiction texts to the forefront of many classroom libraries and writing workshops.  As teachers work to integrate more nonfiction reading and writing into their classrooms, they have a secret weapon to use - student notebooks.  The reading notebook is a terrific vehicle for exploring different conventions in and strategies for reading nonfiction texts.  Writing notebooks are a wonderful tool for exploring the craft of nonfiction writing.

Aimee Buckner is known as the "notebook guru" among elementary teachers.  Her bestselling books, Notebook Know-How and Notebook Connections, have helped thousands of teachers make notebooks a key component of their literacy programs.  In this workshop, Aimee will share her latest work on integrating nonfiction reading and writing into notebooks.  The workshop will include sample activities, videos of lessons and conferring, and mentor texts for sparking fine writing and discussions of nonfiction.
